Joan Waterbury
Joan Waterbury

Waterbury is a native of Hagerstown, Maryland.

Following graduation, she taught a group of active fourth graders.

She relocated to Oswego after her marriage to William Waterbury to raise their four children and became a member of the Children’s Board, serving the children of the then-existing orphanage.

In the mid-1960s, she resumed her teaching career at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School as a Reading Specialist.

Through the years, she has been active in many community activities, several scholarship committees and several boards including: Oswego County Council on the Arts, Friends of the Library, H. Lee White Marine Museum, Oswego County Retired Teachers Association, the Oswego County Humane Society, Springside Retirement Community and her new venture with the Oswego Opera Theater.

“As a lifelong lover of music and all the Arts, I am excited to be a member of this talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic group of people who are dedicated to bringing high quality musical performances to our community,” she said.

Williams is a local attorney who has practiced law in Oswego for more than 30 years.

In addition, Williams recently retired from her teaching position at SUNY Oswego School of Business, which she held for 20 years.

Williams lives in the town of Minetto with her husband, Alan, and is the mother of their three grown boys.

She is a community activist who has spent many years serving on the boards of directors of the Oswego YMCA, Harborfest, and the Oswego Public Library.

She is pleased to have been asked to join the Opera Theater Board of Directors and looks forward to continued participation in the cultural life of the Oswego community.

Adam Gagas
Adam Gagas

Gagas is CEO of Breakwall Asset Management, a New York registered investment advisor that offers design, implementation, and continuous management of custom investment portfolios for individuals and organizations.

He is an Oswego native and has returned to his hometown after nearly 15 years of working in finance in New York City and Moscow, Russia.

Citing the unique nature of the Oswego Opera Theater, Gagas notes that he learned about opera at an early age despite living in a small town and then discovered that he couldn’t afford to attend opera performances when he lived in larger cities.

He looks forward to helping ensure that the organization can continue to offer high-quality information, education and entertainment at an affordable cost.

In addition to his new position on the Oswego Opera Theater board, Gagas also serves on the boards of directors for Oswego Hospital and the Riverside Cemetery of Oswego and is a member of a steering committee for the YMCA.
