Oswego Public Library Workshops Announced

OSWEGO – Erin Lohnas will continue training in the use of the 3D printer in June at the Oswego Library in order to create viable workshops relating to the subject matter.

Introductory courses will continue to be held on using the 3D printer and patrons will be shown how they can create different pre-made 3D models that are available online for download.

Free workshops will also be created that show where these models can be found.

The 3D Printing workshops for June will be held on June 25 and 26.

The Introduction to Computers classes and Internet Basics classes will be held again due to increased patron demand for these workshops, as attendance for them this month has been very high.

The Microsoft Office classes and Ancestry.com workshops will also be offered again as well as there have been numerous requests for them during the last few months.

The Microsoft Office classes will be offered as a larger workshop instead of having each individual software have its own class.

Here is the breakdown of all of the classes that will be offered in June:

Computer/Computing Classes:

? Mondays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 – Introduction to Computers, #4 – #3 (Cycles through 5 Parts), 10 a.m. -noon

? Mondays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 – Internet Basics, #2 – #1 (Cycles through 5 Parts), 2-4 p.m.

? Wednesday, June 5, 2-4 p.m. – Computer Maintenance

? Thursday, June 6, 2-4 p.m. – Computer Tune-Up (This and the previous class cover topics such as disk clean-up, disk defragmentation, system restore functions, and more that patrons can do to keep their computers running faster for longer.)

? Saturday, June 15, 2-4 p.m. – Upgrading your PC (This workshop covers some basics of the parts of computer that can be replaced and upgraded in order to extend the life or the capacity of a personal computer.)

? June 25 and 26, 2-4 p.m. – 3D Printing Workshops (This gives patrons a breakdown of the software I use to interface with the printer (Cura), how it creates different 3D rendered models, and also different applications that 3D printing has in current times).

? Thursday, June 13, 2-4 p.m. – Using Windows 10 (A basic breakdown of the different parts of Windows 10 and discussion on how it varies from previous versions of Windows).

? Wednesday, June 19, 2-4 p.m. – Microsoft Office Overview (A workshop that covers the basic functions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher).

Website Classes:

? Tuesday, June 4, 2-4 p.m. – Artist Works (A free website that offers many different musical lessons via the NCLS website, that all patrons have access to through having a library card with us.)

? Tuesday, June 11, 2-4 p.m. – Seguridad de Internet (This workshop is offered in Spanish and covers some good rules to follow to stay safe online.)

? Wednesday, June 12, 2-4 p.m. – Navigating ancestry.com (A general overview of the ancestry.com website and how patrons had utilized it via their NCLS membership).

? Tuesday, June 18, 2-4 p.m. – Using Universal Class (Another free resource that is available via NCLS, this website has many different online courses that patrons can take some of which come with extended education credits as well).

? Thursday, June 20, 2-4 p.m. – Navigating Facebook (This class covers the different components of having a page on Facebook, as well as how patrons can alter their security settings and keep their profile and information safer.)

? Thursday, June 27, 2-4 p.m. – Navigating eBay (This is a general class on how patrons can create an account on eBay, post listings on there, and make purchases.)

Tech Help Open Lab will be held on the following dates during the month of June (all from 10 a.m. until noon):

? Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18 and 25.

? Thursdays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27.

? Fridays, June 7 and 21.

The Library Learning Center is located on the lower level of the Oswego Public Library and is open Monday-Friday.

All programs are free and open to the public.
