WASHINGTON – This afternoon, Congressman Bill Owens held a conference call with representatives of workforce development centers across New York’s 23rd Congressional District to discuss how best to connect unemployed New Yorkers to more than 3,400 unfilled jobs in the region. This week, Owens launched a new section of his website to help the unemployed to find open positions that are currently listed by their local workforce development center.
“There are thousands of unfilled jobs in the region because New Yorkers don’t have access to the information they need to apply and train for them.” said Owens. “I am pleased to offer a way for constituents to connect with their local development center to find these positions and get back to work.”
Today’s conference call was the latest in a serious of efforts by Congressman Owens to put New Yorkers back to work. Representatives from OneWorkSource, the Workforce Development Institute, the Jefferson-Lewis Workforce Investment Board, Workforce Solutions System, Working Solutions, Your Career Connection, and One-Stop Career Center participated in the call to discuss the importance of training programs and the need for federal support.
“We are very excited to be partnering with the Congressman on connecting our job seekers with One-Stop Career Centers in our area,” said Cheryl Mayforth, Executive Director of the Jefferson-Lewis Workforce Investment Board. “Our centers are the hub for connectivity between our businesses and our community members during these tough economic times.”
