Second grader Dennis Mullin celebrates after a partner fitness activity at Maroun Elementary School.
PHOENIX – An annual fitness tradition at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School continued recently with “Parents in PE.”

Each spring, Phoenix elementary students invite their parents or adult family members into physical education class.
Students and parents exercise together and participate in a variety of fitness activities that promote overall health.
According to PE teacher Alice Benjamin, the most inspiring part of the program is the teamwork and community spirit exhibited by all participants.

“Phoenix parents are the ones who make this program so successful,” Benjamin said. “Not all kids have a parent who is able to come in during the school day, but those who do help make sure everyone is included in the fun. It’s awesome to see everyone come together and that’s what the Phoenix community is all about.”
Benjamin said she hopes the students and parents will team up for fitness activities during the summer as well.
