PHOENIX – The Phoenix Central School District recently celebrated Music in Our Schools Month with a combined jazz band concert.

Student musicians representing the middle and high school jazz ensembles delivered the upbeat, high-tempo lineup of songs.
The playlist included classics and new music alike, with songs such as “Play that Funky Music” and “Make me Smile.”
John C. Birdlebough Jazz Band Director David Frateschi applauded the students for their hard work and their contributions to the PCSD music program.

“Music is alive and well in Phoenix,” he said. “Bringing the high school and middle school jazz bands together is so healthy for the program.”
In addition to the instrumental performance, vocal talent was on display as foreign exchange student Anastasia Oleynik accompanied the high school jazz band in “Skyfall.”
The performance brought the audience to its feet and set the tone for the final number of the evening, which featured all the jazz students performing “Grabbin’ Some Air.”
