OSWEGO, NY –The Professional Journalists & Communicators of Oswego County will honor one of its former presidents and a true champion of the press in Oswego County, Vince Caravan, with a special dinner in his honor.

Caravan will be recognized for his years as publisher of the Valley News and his many contributions to the community at a dinner to be held March 31 at Vona’s Restaurant.

“The time has come to celebrate – and gently roast – one of the press club’s founding members on his retirement from publishing,” said president of the PJC, Michele Reed. “Vince Caravan was among the group who founded the club in October 1972 and has been a member of the club continuously since its earliest days. He began his career with the Valley News 50 years ago and was publisher for 38 years until he submitted his last ‘Clearing Off the Editor’s Desk’ column in February.”

Caravan served as press club president in the 1980s and over the years has worked on a number of committees, including the popular PR seminars.

He has maintained his membership for nearly four decades and still regularly attends meetings.

“We are pleased to be able to recognize Vince and invite his friends and community members to join us as we remember a man who has been integral part of the newspaper industry in Oswego County and the press club/PJC for more than 40 years,” added Reed.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour; followed by buffet dinner at 7 p.m.

Cost for the dinner is only $20 and includes a menu of chicken, roast beef, rigatoni with rose sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans almandine, Caesar salad and chocolate mousse.

Al D. Squitieri Sr., a longtime columnist for the Valley News, will emcee the event and lead the roast of one of the press club / PJC’s most senior members.
