Port City Roller Derby to hold BBQ fundraiser May 11 at Lighthouse Lanes

OSWEGO — Port City Roller Derby aims for a meaty fundraiser when it hosts a chicken and pulled pork barbecue from noon to 6 p.m. May 11, at sponsor Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego.

Dinners of chicken or pork cost $8 apiece and also will feature sides and a dessert. The event will include a homemade bake sale and a variety of raffles for prizes.

“This is our biggest annual fundraiser, thanks to Lighthouse Lanes donating the dinners and hosting us,” said Vanessa Vickery, aka Murmaider, sponsor and events chair for the league. “It sells out every year, so we urge people to buy tickets in advance.”

PCRD will deliver meals with five or more orders in the greater Oswego area with advance orders. Presale dinners must be claimed by 3 p.m. and all other dinners will be available on a first-come first-served basis until sold out.

All raffles will be pulled by 5 p.m. Guests are welcome to bowl at host Lighthouse Lanes, 295 E. Albany St. in Oswego.

Tickets are available from any Port City Roller Derby member or by emailing [email protected]

Entering its third year of competition, Port City Roller Derby is raising money to stage its five home dates, starting May 25 vs. the Roc City Roller Derby B-Sides in Crisafulli Rink.

Port City Roller Derby is produced by Oz Roller Girls Inc., a member-run non-profit organization dedicated to athletic competition, empowerment and supporting its community.

PCRD always seeks skaters, refs and other volunteers for its adult (18 and over) and juniors (ages 10 to 17) teams, and will provide training.
