PARISH – How many people do you know that can say they are a published author?

Well, the students in Maria Walter’s and Hannah Weigel’s second grade class can all say they are and they just held a publishing party to celebrate receiving copies of their beautiful hard-cover books entitled: “When I Grow Up I Will Be…”
The idea for the book began with students brainstorming about what they wanted to write their book about. Ideas included: their families, their playground, and many more.
But, it was Carah LaValley-Taylor’s idea that won the class vote: what I want to be when I grow up.
Students then had to give thought to what they wanted to be and what it would take to make their dreams come true.

They researched what education they would need for their future career and included that information in their paragraph.
They also decided that they wanted to include something funny on their pages and added the final line of “I hope I don’t have to…” to add humor into the book.
Then they added illustrations for their page and printed their paragraphs neatly onto their papers for the final design.
The teachers sent the pages off to a printer who printed the book in beautiful color with a hard cover and each student ordered a copy for them to keep.
At the party, each student took turns reading their page in front of an audience of family and friends gathered to celebrated the book.
