FULTON, NY – The deadline is fast approaching for the Rising Stars Children’s Theatre summer theatre program in the city of Fulton.
“Our two-week summer program is geared for children ages 6 to 18,†explained Rising Stars co-founder Joe Clark. “The program will wrap up with three performances of ‘Seussical Jr.’â€ÂÂ
The program will run from July 21 to Aug. 1. Children will rehearse Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on stage at the G. Ray Bodley High School.
Performances will be delivered at 7 p m., Aug. 1; and again at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Aug. 2.
“This story focuses on how special a person is, no matter how small they are,†said co-founder Deb Pearson. “Kids really enjoy this show. It is such a great time.â€ÂÂ
Registrations will be accepted until July 11. The cost of the program will be $195 per child. For families enrolling more than one child, the cost of the second child’s registration will be $100 and $75 for the third child or more.
The fee covers the costs of instruction, programs, scripts, music and two free tickets to a performance. Children will be required to bring their lunches with them during the program. Videos of the performance will be available for purchase.
Clark noted that child care will be available for an hour before and an hour after rehearsal times for a cost of $5 per hour, per child.
In rehearsals now for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,†Rising Stars’ children’s theatre programs have been widely popular both inside and outside of the city of Fulton.
The group hosted two one-week theatre programs during both the February and April school vacations. In February, the group presented an all-child cast production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.†“Once on this Island†was presented in April.
“We had a lot of interest for our two programs earlier this year,†Clark said. “We are looking forward as much success, if not more, for our summer program. The rehearsals will extend a week longer than our spring programs and will give our performers a chance to rehearse and present their show on stage.â€ÂÂ
The Fulton summer program is one of three two-week programs the theatre group is hosting this summer for young actors. Two others are being held in Syracuse.
“Theatre is a fantastic outlet for children,†Pearson pointed out. “During the summer break, busy schedules can sometimes lead to too much television. These kinds of programs get kids off the couch and on the stage, singing, dancing and learning a show. It exercises the mind and body and gives kids something to be proud of at the end of the two weeks.â€ÂÂ
