Reminder: Send in Your Child’s Summer Reading Challenge Calendar

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) today reminded young readers who are participating in the 2009 Summer Reading Challenge to send in their completed reading calendars to the Assembly office to redeem their New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificates.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to read with their parents or by themselves for at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August, while children are on summer vacation from school. More than 5,000 Summer Reading Brochures were circulated to schools and libraries within the 124th Assembly District. Many local libraries participated to promote reading.

“I’m always pleased to see the summer reading challenges come into the office. It’s good to know so many kids continue reading when school is out. Study after study shows that kids who read leisurely have better academic success,” said Barclay.
