State Senate candidate Dave Renzi today announced the endorsements of two more of New York’s leading sportsmen’s groups – and a top ranking from a third – adding to his growing support among hunters and sportsmen, including his endorsement by the NRA.
The NYS Rifle & Pistol Association and the Adirondack-Catskill Chapter of Safari Club International lent their backing to the challenger for the 48th State Senate seat, covering Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties. The Shooters Committee on Political Education (S.C.O.P.E.), which does not issue endorsements, gave Renzi its top “A” rating.
“Gun owners, hunters and sportsmen know that I will be a strong advocate for their Second Amendment rights and fight against the liberal downstate agenda that includes new restrictions on gun ownership, hunting and outdoor recreation,” said Renzi.
“As a lifelong hunter and sportsman, I am especially gratified by the support of the men and women who, like me, enjoy the great outdoors, and recognize the importance of this beautiful resource to our region’s economy and way of life,” Renzi said.
Renzi has already received the NRA’s top rating and the group has endorsed him as the only “solidly pro-gun candidate” in race. The NRA gave Darrel Aubertine a failing grade.
In its endorsement of Renzi, the NYS Rifle & Pistol Association said, “Our civil rights are very important to all New Yorkers and we believe in your commitment to preserve and protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners.”
Safari Club International is “a leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide.”
During Thursday night’s Town Hall debate in Central Square, Oswego County, sportsmen-voters grilled Aubertine for his ineffectiveness in defending gun owners during three terms in the state Assembly. During that time, the Assembly’s downstate leaders pushed dozens of anti-gun bills to passage in spite of Aubertine’s claim to have fought against them.
