State Senate candidate Dave Renzi hailed a decision today by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission to approve the continued operation of the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant near Oswego.

“The continued licensing of the FitzPatrick plant is welcome news to the men and women who depend on the plant for their livelihoods, for the communities that depend on it for jobs and power, and for the future of our region as an emerging clean energy hub,” said Renzi.

“The decision reflects the critical role that this region will play in our nation’s energy future, and bodes well for our effort to bring a fourth nuclear station — and thousands of good-paying, career-building jobs — to the region,” said Renzi.

“I am more excited than ever about the future of new and clean energy, and the part that it will play in revitalizing our economy, bringing us new industry and creating new jobs,” said Renzi.

The NRC today extended the operating license of the FitzPatrick plant for an additional 20 years. The current license expires in 2014. missing or outdated ad config
