Rice Joins Thank A Service Member As Director Of Community Programs

Oswego, NY – Kathy Rice has joined Thank a Service Member as the Director of Community Programs, according to Peter Allen, Executive Director of the Oswego-based non-profit organization.

“Kathy’s extensive work within the community, supplemented by her impressive professional experience, made her an ideal candidate for the position,” said Allen. “Her work for our organization will undoubtedly yield tremendous results for our programs.”

Rice joined Thank a Service Member to help further the organization’s mission of thanking and helping the nation’s veterans for their selfless sacrifices and commitment to their country.

She has already immersed herself in the responsibilities of the position, working with the Pacific Historic Parks in Hawaii to plan a coin ceremony in honor of the Pearl Harbor attack survivors.

“I especially enjoy Thank a Service Member’s Military Appreciation Campaign,” said Rice. “It allows me to meet our veterans and give them a special coin as a token of our appreciation for their bravery and dedication.”

Currently a substitute teacher for the Oswego School District, Rice was previously a Certified Special Education Teacher and Reading Specialist for grades K through 12. She taught in New Hampshire and Syracuse, NY for fifteen years before moving to Oswego. Additionally, she is attempting to get published as a children’s book author.

Within the community, Rice is a member of the Oswego Minor Hockey Association, and has been a Team Manager for mite, squirt and pee wee level hockey for five years. She is the owner and designer of Avant Garde Hand-Made Jewelry in Oswego, as well as a member of the Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Minetto.

Rice received her AS in Mental Health/Counseling from Onondaga Community College with High Honors. She then graduated Cum Laude from Syracuse University with a BS in Special Education and her MS in Reading Education.

Rice, from Ogdensburg, NY, currently lives in Oswego, NY with her husband, John, and her son, Johnny.
