Riley Sixth Grades Celebrate Success

OSWEGO, NY – The Charles E. Riley Elementary School sixth grade honors assembly provided the opportunity to recognize those students moving on to Oswego Middle School while at the same time congratulating them for their academic effort.

Sophia Woods received the “Love of School Awards” from CER Principal Mary Beth Fierro, Mia Fierro, Katie Fierro and Michael Fierro in memory of Mrs. Fierro’s mother who passed away this year.

Along with the presentation of certificates were several individual awards including the “Principal’s American Citizenship Award” presented by CER Principal Mary Beth Fierro to Ariana Noel.

Fierro noted, “The award is designed to recognize the student who consistently exhibits the kind of behavior we want to see displayed in our school and community. It is awarded to a student who shows a positive attitude toward classmates, school and community; who displays an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility and who possesses strength of character and the courage to do what is right.”

Fierro also presented a “Love of School Award” in memory of her mother, Marilee King Maroney, who passed away during the recent school year.

Sophia Woods received the award from the principal as well as Maroney’s grandchildren Mia, Katie and Michael Fierro.

This year’s Triple “C” Award from the state attorney general for “character, courage and commitment” was presented to Amanda Cali and Carson Smith.

Several sixth graders were also recognized with the Presidential Awards for Excellence and Achievement and received a certificate signed by President Barack Obama.

Those earning the excellence honors included Matthew Bates, Jacob Caster, Sarah Fitzgibbons, Dylan MacIssac, Ariana Noel, Madison Plyler, Sarah Smolinski, Joseph Wallace, Amanda Cali, Alexander Davies, Amber Lagoe, Sammy Mays, Katherine O’Gorman, Carson Smith, Julia Tepfenhart and Sophia Woods.

Students receiving the “achievement” award included Dalton Babcock, Michael Bruce, Jenna McManus, Matthew Olszewski, Kristina Veyan, Nicholas Beall, Rachel Lagoe, Jessica Morgan and Gabrielle Rosario.

A large sixth grade class was recognized by Principal Fierro as well as their teachers Karen Burke, Cindy Farnsworth and Kathryn McCrobie.

This year’s students advancing to Oswego Middle School are Alissa Alfano, Devin Baker, Lillian Blackmer, Amanda Cali, Zachary Daino, Trevor Fidler, Caitlin Fowler, Shealy Hazelton, Shania Kennedy, Amber Lagoe, Connar Levesque, Sammy Mays, Makayla Meaney, Alexander Munger, Arianna Noel, Matthew Olszewski, Madison Plyler, Austin Richardson, Noah Ruel, Jonathan Sheary, Julia Tepfenhart, Kristina Veyan and Sophia Woods.

Also moving on are Maggie Archer, Matthew Bates, Joseph Bristol, Jacob Caster, Seardan Darrow, Sarah Fitzgibbons, Hailey Giocondo, Christian Jasewicz, Cassidy King, Rachel Lagoe, Evan Lewis, Jenna McManus, Michael Meaney, Anthony Myers, Alexis Noiseux Earl, Kaleb Perry, Brianna Reis, Deisy Rivera Ramos, Austin Salvadore, Carson Smith, Kenneth Tombolillo and Joseph Wallace.
