PULASKI, NY – Nurses from health care providers throughout upstate New York will soon be participating in a leadership-training seminar offered through SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning.
The seminar is designed to enhance the essential leadership skills of nurse leaders through integrating self-assessment, personal leadership style, communication, team building and decision-making.
According to Danielle Wert, coordinator of the Rural Health Network of Oswego County, participants will benefit in a number of ways.
“As a supervisor/leader, knowing your leadership style allows for continuous improvement of the ‘soft’ skills required to be an effective leader. This workshop will build on those strengths and minimize weaknesses through development of an individual learning plan. In addition, participants will learn how to help those they lead identify and build on their strengths and enable and encourage them to excel,” she said.
The seminar will be facilitated by Virginia Jones, clinical nurse specialist for the emergency department and cardiac services and coordinator of the chest pain center at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Nationally certified in both emergency and critical care nursing, Jones is an adjunct clinical instructor in the weekend nursing program at St. Joseph’s Hospital College of Nursing.
“We are honored to have Virginia as our instructor. Her extensive knowledge of the nursing profession and experience in leadership training will make for a very enlightening and informative seminar,” added Wert.
Sponsored by the Rural Health Network of Oswego County and the New York Rural Health Care Alliance, the seminar, which is by invitation only, will be held Nov. 18 and 19 at the Pulaski Health Center, 61 Delano St.
Operating under the auspices of OCO, the Rural Health Network is a consortium of health care providers and human service providers in Oswego County.
Working together the members take a collaborative approach to addressing major health issues that exist in Oswego County.
