OSWEGO, NY – The Lakeside Artisans’ featured artist for the month of May is Sandra Dowie.
She recently moved to the area.
Dowie is passionate about her paintings, jewelry, pottery, and especially her equestrian art.
The artist and one of her daughters, Marcella, make a vibrant and artistically knowledgeable team.
Both are graduates of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, majoring in Visual Arts.
The plan was for Marcella to attend the college. However, she became ill and could not attend classes.
Dowie decided to pursue her own BA and enrolled in the visual arts program as an undergraduate and commuted with her daughter so she would be able to continue with her studies.
Both mother and daughter graduated together in 2009.
They both credit each other with their success.
Dowie said of her daughter, “I couldn’t have done it without her.”
Lakeside Artisans will feature Dowie at its grand opening celebration on May 14 from noon to 5 p.m.
Lakeside Artisans is located in Canal Commons, 193 W. First St.
There will be refreshments, gift bags, a raffle of an acrylic painting by local artist Tim Ames and live music by harpist Marcella Slater.
