MEXICO – School board members, superintendents and selected district
leadership team members, along with their respective state legislators,
and directors of the Statewide School Finance Consortium and New York
State School Boards Association will meet to discuss the potential impacts of the state budget proposal.
The legislative forum will take place at the CiTi, 179 County Route 64 in Mexico, on February 3 from 9 – 11 a.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss in a small group setting
the impacts of the Governor’s executive budget proposal on individual
school districts.
There will be a brief overview of the budget proposal, followed by a facilitated discussion between school leaders and state legislators.
In his executive budget proposal, the Governor proposed a 3% increase
in school funding ($796 million), which is less than half of what the
Board of Regents recommended ($1.6 billion).
Given the above-inflation cost increases in many areas, school leaders and education advocacy groups caution that the proposed funds will not be sufficient to maintain current programs and services.
