OSWEGO, NY – Oswego High School science teacher Tom Altman continued his traveling science show recently at the Charles E. Riley Elementary School as he took the kindergarteners on a tour of “solids, liquids and gas.”
Curiosity and excitement were quite evident as Altman displayed a variety of items and encouraged these five-year-olds to analyze.
He used groups of students to explain various forms of matter.
Teacher Jennifer Heagerty said, “Everything he did ties in with standards and the requirements for kindergarten students.”
Altman covered the science standards including knowing the properties of matter which can be observed through the senses, the three states of matter and the ways in which common objects can change.
Heagerty continued, “The English and language arts categories are also covered including the use of new vocabulary words to talk about life experiences, listening attentively for different purposes, listening respectfully without interrupting others and listen attentively to the spoken language.”
