Oswego attorney Scott DelConte has announced his candidacy for the open Oswego County seat on the New York State Supreme Court, Fifth Judicial District.

DelConte is an equity member of the law firm of Bond, Schoeneck and King, PLLC, (Bond), and the Managing Attorney in the firm’s Oswego office.

Over the years, his legal work has focused on civil litigation in the State Supreme Court, representing clients in all phases of wide ranging civil disputes, including contract claims, property disputes, products liability, personal injury and medical malpractice.

As an advocate, DelConte has handled many special proceedings, accelerated judgments and appeals for his clients, giving him a thorough understanding of the Court and its proceedings.

He is also experienced in many other areas of the law, including representing clients in business matters and real estate transactions and working with individuals and families with estate and property planning.

In addition, DelConte serves as Chancellor and General Counsel to the Upper New York United Methodist Conference, providing legal counsel on religious property, non-profit corporate governance and First Amendment matters.

Born in Syracuse and raised in Cicero (in northern Onondaga County), DelConte graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School and attended Cornell University, where he studied Natural Resources and received his Bachelor of Science degree, with distinction, in 1995. He then studied law at Washington and Lee School of Law in Lexington, Virginia, earning his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, in 1998.

After law school, DelConte returned home to Central New York with his wife, Heather, where he started his legal career at Bond, in the firm’s Oswego office.

He is admitted to practice law in New York State and before the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the New York federal district courts.

He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Oswego County Bar Association as First Vice President.

Above all, DelConte believes that every court must be fair and impartial, and that judges should be independent. “A judge is not a legislator, and cases should never be decided based on politics or public opinion. I will decide cases based only on the facts and the law,” DelConte said. “I also believe that my personal values, proven integrity and temperament are right for the bench. I know that I can be fair and make very difficult decisions, and I will not be swayed by improper influence.”

DelConte and his have four children. As a family, they run a farm in the town of Volney in Oswego County, where they raise registered Hereford beef cattle and rare heritage sheep. DelConte is also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and hiking. He is an American history enthusiast and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Oswego.

DelConte has been very involved in his local Oswego County community for many years, serving as director of the Port City Educational Foundation; volunteer for the Oswego County 4-H Program and Oswego County Fair; and as trustee, Sunday school teacher and Safe Sanctuaries Director for the First United Methodist Church of Oswego.

He is a past director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Oswego County.

“It would be an honor to continue to serve this community as a State Supreme Court Justice and continue the tradition of great judges in Oswego County,” DelConte said. “I believe that I am ready to be the next independent, fair and hard-working Supreme Court Justice.”
