More than 40 volunteers will be hand at the Oswego Country Club when the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s 18th Annual Golf Classic tees off on July 15.

From preparing door prizes for the golfers, to registration and placing hole and tee signs, volunteers do it all to make sure that the tournament runs as smoothly as possible.

According to United Way Resource Development Director, Lois Luber, the role that the volunteers play has become such an integral part of the tournament that there is a designated volunteer coordinator to oversee and assist the other volunteers.

“With the amount of volunteers we have it’s necessary for a volunteer coordinator to step up to organize the jobs which the volunteers will be responsible for.  This year Nancy Concadoro of Oswego Health and Kim McPherson of the Fulton YMCA will serve as our volunteer coordinators, and Country Club Golf Pro, Jon Fowler and his staff will assist as well as they match each volunteer’s duties with their skills and interests,” said Luber.

Luber added that the Shineman Foundation has signed on as the official volunteer sponsor for the United Way Golf Classic and will provide all volunteers with shirts, snacks and more.

“We are pleased to welcome the Shineman Foundation as a new sponsor to our tournament. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers who unselfishly donate their time to helping their United Way. We do our best to make sure that the volunteers are as comfortable as possible during the event. Our volunteers are greatly appreciated and we welcome new recruits be part of the fun and join the many volunteers who return year after year. We could not do it without them and I salute them for their efforts,” said Luber.

The United Way Golf Classic provides businesses and individuals with the opportunity to enjoy a fun day of golf and while helping to support their United Way.
