There will be a reception for her on Nov. 12 from 2 – 6 p.m. where you can meet the artist and enjoy refreshments.

Slater recently moved back to the area this year with her family.

She settled in Sterling and is active with the Art Association of Oswego.

She loves being back in Central New York where she is inspired by the beauty of the nature in the area.

“I am often inspired by the things in nature, especially the trees with their texture and organic forms. When on vacation in different parts of the country my eyes are always on the trees. They create unique negative shapes and patterns.” Slater said.

Starting out her education as a music major, it didn’t take her long to discover her passion for the Fine Arts and change her major.

Slater graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD, in May of 2009 with a degree in Art Education.

She has won many awards for her work including Best in Show several times at the Sioux Empire Artist Council Annual Juried Show in Sioux Falls for her pottery.

Recently, she won Best in Show at the Members Show here at the AAO.

She looks forward to serving the community by teaching workshops on hand building clay at her studio in Sterling.

When she is not busy doing art you can find her sitting behind her harp playing beautiful music. She has been a professional harpist for more than 15 years and plays for weddings, parties, and special events. She also gives harp lessons.

You may see other works of Slater’s at the Lakeside Artisans, located in Canal Commons, at 193 W. First St.

Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. missing or outdated ad config
