Darrel Aubertine received the strong endorsement of the St. Lawrence Advance News, which is the Sunday newspaper for all of St. Lawrence County.

In the endorsement, The Advance News states, “Darrel has been an outspoken advocate for the North Country, its farmers, its local governments, and its citizens,” and that he has “sponsored legislation that protects North Country dairy farmers, championed accessibility to higher education, and he has brought home funding for critical community projects.”

Darrel Aubertine responded, “I am pleased to have this important endorsement and the strong support of the people of St. Lawrence County. It has been my pleasure to work on behalf of all North Country citizens in the Assembly and now in the Senate, and I look forward to continuing to do that as we work together to save jobs, to reduce property taxes and to improve our local economy.”

The Advance News went on to say that North Country citizens “need someone representing us who knows our needs and can fight for us in Albany,” concluding that Darrel Aubertine “is the right man for the job.”

The Advance News editorial board also rapped Dave Renzi’s campaign, saying he has “spouted over and over again” charges against Aubertine that are comprised of “untruths and misleading statements.”  The editorial added, “Mr. Renzi should be embarrassed.”

Advance News Editor and Publisher Chuck Kelly, in separate column, also endorsed Darrel Aubertine and went even further in criticizing Mr. Renzi’s campaign, writing that while both campaigns began with the stated intention to focus on the issues, “David Renzi threw that out the window early in his campaign.” Kelly added that Renzi “has fallen short on promoting himself in this race, but has worked very hard at tearing down Senator Aubertine’s excellent reputation.”
