“We all enjoy a favorite beverage from time to time with good company and our residents here at St. Luke are no exception,” said Donna Rose, director of activities. “Our sincerest thanks go to Eagle Beverage for the generosity they extend to our folks, especially Dan Dorsey Jr. and everyone who joined Dan from Eagle Beverage. It’s not only the beverages that they serve, our resident’s truly enjoy having the time to visit and share a few laughs.”

Besides the beer and specialty beverages served by Eagle Beverage, residents also enjoyed some special “pub fare” made by the St. Luke Dietary Department. And accompanying all the food and drink were a few stories swapped among residents.

And it wasn’t long before the story turned to how this “tradition,” the annual Eagle Beverage visit, got started at St. Luke.

“Local lore has it that nine years ago three residents who were close friends would regularly and half-jokingly ask St. Luke’s Clinical Nutrition Manager Bernice Strother when they might expect their beer delivery, as they had been known to enjoy a beverage together from time to time,” explained Rose. “So at the time Bernice did them one better and reached out to Dan Dorsey Sr. at Eagle Beverage who immediately made arrangements for a visit. Not only did the three friends (and many other St. Luke residents) get a beer delivery that year, Mr. Dorsey personally accompanied a group of Eagle Beverage employees on many subsequent visits; and now thanks to Dan Dorsey Jr. the tradition continues.”

For most residents, regardless of the origins, the Eagle Beverage visit is always circled on the St. Luke Activities calendar and looked forward to with much anticipation. missing or outdated ad config
