Staff, Residents of Bishop’s Commons Give Back This Holiday Season

OSWEGO, NY – Giving back during the holiday season is something the residents and staff of Bishop’s Commons Assistive Living Residence have been doing for the past few years.

Sponsoring families and hosting a food drive are just two ways that residents, families and staff have come together for the cause of helping those in need this holiday season.

Residents have adopted two families under the direction of the local Salvation Army, in which they have the opportunity to purchase gifts, clothing, and a variety of items for a family that includes children of all ages.

“Our residents, their families and our staff look forward to this project each year,” noted senior living coordinator Julie Chetney. “It is very important to our residents that they continue give back to the community that they were, and still are, an active part of.”

In addition to the families who receive the many generous donations, Bishop’s Commons also organizes a food drive to benefit the local Human Concerns Center in partnership with Riley Elementary School.

“As part of our intergenerational program called Community Connections with the first graders at Riley, we will welcome the director of the Human Concerns Center to our activity together later this month,” Chetney explained. “At that time the children and residents can present the items that have been collected.”

The residents of Bishop’s Commons play an active role in both projects doing everything from the shopping, to the wrapping, and occasionally, even do the delivering.
