Start ‘Stepping On’ Into The New Year To Avoid Falls

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County seniors are invited to start the new year on the right foot with the “Stepping On” program in January and February. The free, seven-week series, which focuses on fall prevention, is scheduled every Wednesday from Jan. 17 through Feb. 28. Classes run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Oswego County Health Department, 70 Bunner St., Oswego.

“Stepping On” is an evidence-based program that teaches fall prevention strategies and exercises to older adults and has been proven to reduce falls by 31%. It aims to help those who live independently and either have had a fall or are fearful of falling. The workshops are not meant for those who may use a walker indoors or a wheelchair full-time.

The workshop series provides a safe and welcoming environment for older adults to have discussions with trained professionals about their physical health and well-being. Participants can speak to and work with a physical therapist, an ophthalmologist, a pharmacist and a community safety expert throughout the sessions.

To register for the program, call NY Connects at 315-349-8697.
