OSWEGO, NY - The Oswego Country Club held its annual Summer Scramble on June 29, with a record number of participants, according to tournament director Ed Fayette.
The event was sponsored by Step One Creative, an Oswego-based advertising and public relations firm.
Twenty-seven teams (108 golfers) participated in the captain-n-crew format, and the winning team was led by Oswego Country Club members Todd Donahue and Marc Ciappa.
Their team, which also included Matt and Bob Ruggio, shot 14-under par or 57.
Dan Bartlett’s team took second place with a 12-under, par 59.
Third place was Sean Callen’s team with a 12-under par. 59. Bartlett’s team won the tiebreaker.
Pete Donovan, Jimmer Dorval, Ciappa, and John Spencer were closest to the pin winners.
Tom Roman Jr. recorded the longest drive on Hole #14.
The tournament format allows for members to invite up to 3 non-members/guests in the four-person captain-n-crew event.
Step One Creative also announced that as part of its sponsorship of the event, a portion of each of the players’ registration fee would go to a local non-profit on an annual basis.
This year’s recipient was Farnham Family Services.
Farnham operates a medically supervised, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, prevention and intervention clinic for all residents of Oswego and surrounding counties.
Their offices are located in the cities of Oswego and Fulton.
The donation to Farnham Family Services totaled $540, according to Shane Stepien, president of Step One Creative.
“Step One Creative has helped us greatly in promoting the event, and bringing in a strong level of participation,” said Fayette. “We look forward to next year’s tournament, expanding the size of the field to 32 teams, and seeing what other new ideas we can bring forth to make the event a continued success.”
