The event also served as a fundraiser for the SUNY Oswego SEFA campaign in support of the United Way of Greater Oswego County and raised $367.

“It was a great event. More than 150 people attended our holiday skate and we had more young people than ever,” said SUNY Oswego Sports Information Director, Adele Burk.

The highlight of the event was the opportunity to skate with members of both the SUNY Oswego men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, who were also available for autographs and photos.

Resource Development Director for the United Way, Lois Luber, who skated at the event was pleased with the turnout and enjoyed seeing so many young people on the ice.

“There were a lot of future hockey players as young as 3 years old on the ice. We are very grateful to SEFA, the SUNY Athletic Department the players and the coaches for donating their time and talents to make this community event a reality,” said Luber.

“The holiday skate has become a nice tradition that we hope to continue as it allows us to help the United Way’s efforts to help those in need in Oswego County.  On behalf of SUNY Athletic Department, SEFA, and the members of the SUNY Oswego Lakers men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, I would like to thank everyone that helped make our holiday skate a success, especially the staff of the United Way of Greater Oswego County who also joined us for the fun, and Maria Santiago for donating the hot chocolate!” added Burke.
