Hockey fans attending the SUNY Oswego Lakers women’s and men’s ice hockey games on Dec. 10 were asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items.

Fans filled five boxes with more than 250 pounds of non-perishable food.

The United Way will distribute the food to pantries throughout Oswego County.

“This was an exciting night, said Melanie Trexler, United Way executive director. “It was fun to be on the ice for the puck drop and watch these young people play hard and display their passion for hockey. I am pleased to say that are also displaying their passion for our community through their support of the United Way’s Annual Campaign. The coaches and their parents should be very proud of them.”

The SUNY Oswego Laker women’s and men’s ice hockey teams and SEFA have been very supportive of the SUNY Oswego’s campaign for the United Way.

Working together with the campaign committee, the SUNY Oswego Athletic Department, the hockey players and SEFA have organized a number of events to benefit the United Way.

“We are appreciative of the relationship we enjoy with SUNY Oswego. Their efforts have a positive impact on the success of our annual campaign,” added resource development director for the United Way, Lois Luber.
