SUNY Oswego Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team Welcomes The United Way

OSWEGO, NY – Officials from SUNY Oswego and the Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team invited the United Way of Greater Oswego County to join them for a special reception for the team’s players and their parents to celebrate the beginning of the Laker’s home schedule.

Resource Development Director of the United Way, Lois Luber and members of the agency’s board of directors had the opportunity to visit with team officials, players and the players’ parents during the reception.

Luber was impressed with the team’s actions both on and off the ice.

“This was an exciting evening, said Luber. “These young women played hard tonight and put forth a solid effort. They are also displaying that same effort in their support of the United Way’s annual campaign. The coaches and their parents should be very proud of them.”

Head Coach Diane Dillon echoed those thoughts.

“Once again this team has set the standard for community involvement and is happy to be helping to support the United Way of Greater Oswego County,” she said.

The SUNY Oswego Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team and the United Way of Greater Oswego County are working together this season to help each organization reach its goals for their respective 2008-09 campaigns.

Members of the SUNY Oswego Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team lent their support to the United Way’s Annual Campaign by appearing at the kickoff breakfast and pledging to support the United Way’s Annual Campaign.

In return, representatives from the United Way were on hand to drop the puck and help the SUNY Oswego Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team get its 2008-09 season under way.

Coach Dillon announced during the United Way’s recent campaign kickoff that she, as well as Laker Men’s Coach Ed Gosek, are asking community members to support their teams’ Dollars For Goals drive by pledging to donate to the United Way’s Annual Campaign, a dollar amount of their choice for each goal that the SUNY Oswego Laker Women’s Ice Hockey Team or the SUNY Oswego Laker Men’s Hockey Team scores during the 2008-09 season.
