SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning is offering American Management Association professional courses and certificate programs designed to build or enhance professional knowledge, skills and leadership at the college’s new Metro Center in downtown Syracuse.   “People constitute the real competitive advantage in business and industries of all types,” said Donna Besaw, assistant director of extended learning at SUNY Oswego. “Enhancing the performance of your people and ultimately your organization depends on the continuous improvement of staff at all levels.”
The AMA “Leadership Skills for Managers” course covers the day-to-day skills used by the world’s most dynamic leaders, along with a leadership model powered by five unique skill sets, she said. Topics include how to empower and motivate employees to peak performance, managing change in a positive and proactive way, and key attitudes and mindset that influence a leader’s daily plan and actions.   The “Leadership Skills” course will run 6 to 9 p.m. on five consecutive Mondays, Oct. 27 to Nov. 24, at the Metro Center, located in the Atrium on Clinton Square.
The Metro Center will also host the AMA “Finance and Accounting for Managers” course from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13 and 20 and Dec. 4, 11 and 18. Attendees should gain an understanding of how basic accounting concepts and principles apply to the real world.
“You will gain the skills and confidence to use everyday financial terms, the four primary financial statements, and tools to administer business transactions and become an informed decision-maker,” Besaw said.
All AMA courses are $319 per person, or available as a certificate package.
