Thank A Service Member, Inc. Establishes the Thomas R. Galloway Memorial Scholarship in Honor of Local Hero

Oswego, NY – Thank a Service Member, Inc., an Oswego County-based not-for-profit organization, has announced the establishment of the Thomas R. Galloway Memorial Scholarship in memory of the late Thomas Galloway, a distinguished local teacher, real estate developer/business owner, civil servant, and military veteran.

The scholarship, valued at $500 annually, aims to honor Galloway’s legacy of service and community dedication.

Peter Allen, Executive Director of Thank A Service Member (TASM), expressed heartfelt sentiments regarding the scholarship. “Thomas Galloway’s exemplary life inspires us all. His unwavering commitment to community betterment, both in his military service and civilian life, epitomizes the values we strive to uphold at TASM,” said Allen. “We are proud to establish this scholarship in his memory and to support the education and development of future leaders who share his dedication to service.”

This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Oswego High School student who meets specific criteria, including planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college or vocational school, demonstrating community involvement, maintaining a GPA of at least 2.0, and preferably being a child of a military veteran. The selection process for the scholarship recipient will be determined by the OHS Committee, ensuring a fair and transparent process.

In announcing the scholarship, TASM provided insight into Galloway’s remarkable life and contributions to the community. Mr. Galloway, who many remember as the long-time owner of Century 21 Galloway Real Estate in Oswego, was also a veteran of the Korean War. His decorations included the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism presented by General Westmoreland and the NYS Conspicuous Service Cross presented by NYS GovernorPataki. He was also a dedicated advocate for community betterment, and his notable achievements included spearheading initiatives such as the “Trees for Vets” program, which saw the planting of several hundred trees in Oswego, leaving a lasting positive impact on the local environment.

According to Allen, “The Thomas R. Galloway Memorial Scholarship aims to honor Galloway’s memory and support the education of young adults who exemplify his commitment to community service. “Through this scholarship, TASM seeks to cultivate a new generation of leaders dedicated to creating positive change within their communities.”
