Thanks to Jane Murphy Event Planned

On Thursday, August 18, a party to show appreciation for the number of offerings Jane Murphy has given to her community will be held at the Bridie Manor inOswego, starting at 5 p.m. Jane will soon be moving across the country to be near her children and grandchildren and she will be sorely missed here inOswegoCounty.

Over the last twenty-five years Jane has played an important role in helping to care for individuals, children and those who were unable to read. She worked for the county from 1984 through 1998 by starting as the office manager at the Oswego County Public Works Department. Jane then worked as the Administrative Assistant to theCountyAdministratorand moved on to work as an Administrative Assistant at the Division of Solid Waste. When she left the county in 1998 Jane began her own business known as JEM Consulting & Business Support.

In 2005 Jane was hired as the Executive Director of the Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County. For the last six years Jane has provided wonderful programs to illiterate people who have learned to read and write. What marvelous results these experiences have brought to clients that Jane has served!

Not only has Jane shown her caring for people through her career positions but through many volunteer services as well. Some of these include Friends of Camp Hollis, Starlight Youth Walk, Literacy Coalition, Youth Bureau Board of Directors, Take Charge, and Traffic Safety Board. Jane has also served on the Oswego Network of Entrepreneurs, Women’s Network of Entrepreneurs Lead Team, Oswego County Opportunities Board of Directors, and SUNY Oswego Service Learning Advisory Council.

Jane has also been involved withLeadershipOswegoCounty, Warm Up Oswego Fest, Bridges Out of Poverty, Leave A Legacy, COACH, and Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee. She has served on the Youth Professionals Advisory Council,United Wayof Greater Oswego County Board of Directors, Oswego High School Band Parents Association, Campus-City Relations Committee, and Harborfest Board.

Jane has participated on the Community Services Board and Family Services Task Force and over the years has been very involved with theSt. Joseph’s Church in her youth and now the Elim Grace Christian Church. She has also received well-earned awards – Leadership Oswego County Alumni Award, Zonta Woman of Achievement Award, and the Unsung Hero Award.
