‘Big Band Sound’ of Oswego County Summer Concert Band Returns August 9 with ‘Musicals and Exuberance!’

OSWEGO, NY – The “Big Band Sound” of the Oswego County Summer Concert Band, under the direction of Stan Gosek, returns to Breitbeck Park at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, with “Musicals and Exuberance!”

The concert is free to the public and is co-sponsored by the city of Oswego, through the Department of Recreation and the Recording Companies of America, through the Music Performance Trust Fund.

The grant for these funds was applied for by the Musicians Union of Oswego County Local 267-441.

In this week’s performance of “Musicals and Exuberance!” the ensemble will perform musical selections from the classic The King and I and South Pacific by Richard Rodgers and Arlen and Harburg’s The Wizard of Oz will delight the audience with memorable tunes.

The concert also features the trombone section as soloists on Norman Leyden’s Concerto for Trombones. Exciting and bombastic music including Holst’s Mars, Franz von Suppe’s Poet and Peasant Overture, Arnold’s Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo and marches by Sousa will energize the audience.

Audience members are encouraged to take lawn chairs and blankets.
