The Changing of the Guard: Fulton Noon Rotary Elects New President

FULTON –  This past week, Fulton’s Rotarians bid adieu to outgoing President Bill Lynch.

Part of the ceremony included a friendly roast of the former president by fellow Rotarians, which featured a slideshow filled with memes and silly anecdotes.

Lynch, who has served as president of the club since 2022, then passed the gavel to Brittney Jerred. He was then awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his humanitarian efforts and work to promote the mission of Rotary International.

Jerred, who works in Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay’s office, started her term by going over the club’s existing and new goals, and asking fellow Rotarians what other priorities they may have.

The Fulton Noon Rotary is quite active in the local community, with numerous ongoing projects of various sizes.

One of the club’s core activities is conducting monthly community service projects. The July project is assisting the Fulton Garden Club with maintaining the community gardens at North Bay Campgrounds. In August, members will be assisting Holy Trinity Church by helping serve the church’s free community dinner.

In addition to regular community service projects, the club fundraises to offer scholarships and support larger projects. Fundraising efforts led by the club frequently support important local organizations like Blessings in a Backpack, The Arc of Oswego County, United Way of Oswego County, Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County, Oswego County Opportunities, Erin’s Angels, and many others.

The Dictionary Project, which has been run by the Noon Rotarians since its beginnings in 2005 under Lynch’s previous term as president of the club, aims to help our community children. The club buys dictionaries for 3rd graders in Fulton City School District and BOCES courses. When they give the children the books, Rotarians discuss the Rotary’s mission and why literacy is important, building up a foundation of community service among our community’s next generation.

The club focuses much of its work on our youth: they work with Fulton Youth Basketball, the Fulton Wrestling Club, the Fulton Jr. High, and have worked with Rotarians in Fulton, Missouri to help build a school in Tanzania. Another project in their pipeline is installing a handicap-accessible ramp at the Aldi on 481.

The Fulton Noon Rotary meets the first three Thursdays of the month at noon and the Tavern on the Lock in Fulton.
