OSWEGO, NY – Helen O’Neill, a nurse practitioner at The Manor, has become certified in wound management.

To earn the certification, O’Neill took an online course offered by Metropolitan State University and completed 100 hours of clinical experience.

Some of her clinical work was done at Crouse Hospital, where she gained experience in outpatient and inpatient wound care.

She was also required to follow a patient and write a case study on the progress of the wound care she provided.

It took some six months to satisfy the educational requirements.

After successfully finishing the online class and her clinical work, O’Neill was able to take the national test for wound care certification.

O’Neill said she has always been fascinated by wound care.

“It is something where you can see your impact on patient care,” she explained. “I’ve been able to add to my skills so I can improve the care I provide to our residents and that makes me feel good.”
