OSWEGO, NY – The “Big Band Sound” of the Oswego County Summer Concert Band, under the direction of Stan Gosek, returns to Breitbeck Park at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, with “Melodies and Marches“
The concert is free to the public and is co-sponsored by the city of Oswego, through the Department of Recreation and the Recording Companies of America, through the Music Performance Trust Fund.
The grant for these funds was applied for by the Musicians Union of Oswego County Local 267-441.
In this week’s performance of “Melodies and Marches” the ensemble will perform marches by Sousa and Prokofiev’s March Op. 99.
Trombone soloist Steve Chirello will be featured on Sammy Nestico’s jazz influenced Reflective Moods. Modern melodic works include Galante’s Journey to the Lion’s Castle and an original composition by Oswego’s very own Bill Palange.
Beautiful lyrical expressions comprise of Ticheli’s Cajun Folk Songs, the musical styling’s of Sinatra in Concert, British master composer Gustav Holst’s First Suite in Eb, an enticing arrangement of Selections from Wicked.
Audience members are encouraged to take lawn chairs and blankets.
In case of inclement weather, the performance will be held in the Breitbeck Park Pavilion.
