The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board To Host Car Seat Check

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board, a division of Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County Inc., will be hosting a car seat check event with the Oswego City School District’s Transportation Department on January 14, 2023.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the OCSD Bus Garage located at 22 Richard Benjamin Blvd., Oswego, NY. This event is sponsored by the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car crashes are the leading cause of death for children. On average, NHTSA reports that two children under 13 were killed and 374 were injured every day in 2019 while riding in vehicles.

NHTSA also reported that 608 child passenger occupants died in traffic crashes in 2019, with 38% of the deaths being children found to be unrestrained. It has also been reported that over half of all car seats are installed incorrectly. For these reasons, it is very important that you ensure that your children are traveling safely.

On Saturday, January 14, visitors can have their car seats checked for proper installation by certified technicians. Representatives from the OCTSB and other organizations will be available to offer assistance, answer questions, and provide education on local community resources available to residents.

For more information about this event or child passenger safety, please contact OCTSB Coordinator, Aine Foley at 315-343-2344 x122 or by email at [email protected].
