The experience is being supported by the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation through the Oswego store owned by Ray and Sally Miranda.

The Oswego Tim Horton’s store supported the company foundation which annually sends more than 13,000 children on a camp adventure that they will never forget.

The foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization that was created in the memory of the great hockey player Tim Horton.

Oswego students will participate in programs designed to give young people confidence in their abilities and pride in their accomplishments.

They will participate in high and low rope adventure courses, climbing, disc golf, canoeing, kayaking, boating, hiking and mountain biking.

Campers are also involved in a variety of land games, fishing and swimming, volleyball and archery as well as experience overnight camping.

There are also numerous other activities including arts, crafts and drama.

Fitzhugh Park Elementary School Principal Donna Simmons noted, “I firmly believe we need to do everything in our power to make a child’s life the best it can be. I am sure your this program is a chance of a lifetime and will make a difference in the lives of our students. “

Continuing she said, “This is a tremendous experience for our students. This will be an unforgettable trip. Tim Horton’s has been very generous as they have paid for everything including the flight and the children will bring home not only memories, but a new sleeping bag and other essentials. It gives students a chance to build self-confidence, life skills and the opportunity to experience life outside of Oswego. “

Simmons said it was a major cooperative effort to make this lifetime experience become a reality.

She noted, “I would like to really thank the Oswego Tim Horton store manager Jennifer Catalone for her help in coordinating this. I also would like to thank the owners  of the local Tim Horton franchise, our school nurse MaryAnn Murray and our social worker Amy Orr for helping to fill out the 12-page applications and for working with parents to get all the information that was needed.”

The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation is dedicated to fostering within children the quest for a brighter future.

The foundation believes that the 24-hour living experience offered in the camp setting can provide campers with opportunities to broaden their horizons, learn by doing and develop more fully as healthy individuals.

For 10 days these five Oswego elementary school students will have a tremendous experience which will not only be fun, but allow them to work as a team, gain self-esteem, confidence and gain responsibility.
