OSWEGO, NY – Imagination Library of Oswego County (ILOC) recently received a donation of $2,490 from the Town of New Haven, it was announced by Patrick Dewine, United Way of Greater Oswego County (UWGOC), executive director and co-director of the Imagination Library of Oswego County program.

“We want to invest in the children of our town because they are the future of our community,” said New Haven Town Supervisor Dan Barney.

The Imagination Library program is administered by the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC) in partnership with the UWGOC.  Dewine and LCOC past president Michael Egan direct the program.

“We are extremely grateful to the Town of New Haven for their support,” said Andrew Eusebio, ILOC coordinator. “Their donation supports 12 months of books for 83 children who reside in New Haven. ILOC depends on grants and donations to keep sharing the gift of literacy with children in our county, and New Haven has stepped up to ensure a year of reading. Currently, ILOC serves 46 percent of eligible children in New Haven.” Eusebio plans to continue presenting to more town boards to explain the need for funding, and how if towns support their children in their community, they will help keep this vital program running.

According to Dewine, ILOC serves 52 percent of eligible children in Oswego County. Since ILOC began in Nov. 2018, 6,659 children have registered, 2,834 children have graduated, and 146,681 books have been delivered across Oswego County. “All donations are vital to sustaining this program.  Anyone who would like to donate can go to https://oswegoimaginationlibrary.org/support, or checks can be made out to ‘Imagination Library of Oswego County, care of United Way of Greater Oswego County’ and mailed to the United Way at 1 S. First St., Fulton, NY 13069.”

ILOC is a free monthly book subscription that provides an age-appropriate book to all registered children in Oswego County each month, from birth to their fifth birthday, in hopes that parents will read to and with their children. “Ultimately, we hope this fosters a lifetime love of reading for children in Oswego County,” Dewine said.
