OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Health Department’s Environmental Division recently held its 28th annual tap water tasting contest.
An informal tasting was held on June 13 at the Oswego County Regional Market and featured four municipal water districts.
The town of Richland won the competition to earn the title of Oswego County’s best-tasting drinking water.
Participants were invited to taste samples of public drinking water and cast votes for their first and second choices.
Water from the town of Richland was the tasters’ favorite, followed by the village of Mexico which took second place.
The village of Cleveland earned third place and the city of Oswego brought home fourth place.
Richland will now be entered in a regional competition scheduled for August10 at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park in Syracuse.
Regional finalists from around the state will compete at the New York State Fair for the state’s best-tasting drinking water.
Seventy-two people voted in the Oswego County contest, which is sponsored by the Environmental Division of the Oswego County Health Department in conjunction with the New York chapter of the Water and Wastewater Education and Outreach Committee.
