Oswego, NY – A new youth athletic event will be making a big splash in the Oswego community this upcoming June 15th, in conjunction with the 2013 Tri-Oswego Triathlon, according to Tri-Oswego Race Director Shane Broadwell.
The Tri-Oswego Splash and Dash, a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event, is being held for children between the ages of 11-15.
The event, which is being presented by Novelis Oswego Works, will take place between 10am-1pm on Saturday, June 15th, and feature a 200 yard swim taking place in Lee Hall on SUNY Oswego campus, as well as a 1.6 mile closed road run. The participants will be running side-by-side with the adult Tri-Oswego Triathletes and finishing with them at Breitbeck Park.

“Our Tri-Oswego committee is very excited to introduce the Splash and Dash to the community,” said Broadwell. “We have wanted to provide a youth segment to our triathlon, and were excited when this new opportunity and model was provided by USA Triathlon.”
“We want this to be an fun-filled annual tradition for our area youth, and we look forward to building on the Splash and Dash event for years to come,” he added.
According to Broadwell, the Splash and Dash will be held in addition to the Novelis Kids’ Fun Run. Both events will be held on the June 15th. The Fun Run will be held at Breitbeck Park once again this year.
There is a $25 registration fee for the Splash and Dash event which includes; race day T-shirts, timing chip, race bib, finisher medals, prizes and entry to the post-race BBQ. Kids participating must have USAT youth membership or a USAT one-day pass to partake in the event. All new participants are encouraged to register at www.active.com to get the USAT membership or one-day pass.
