On Saturday, November 15th, Oswego County Legislators Paul Santore, from the 16th District, and Mary Flett, from the 17th District, proclaimed the month of November “Home 4 the Holidays” Month in Oswego County at the Humane Society’s Holiday Adoption Celebration and Open House. Also present to mark the event and speak about the importance of pet adoptions were Jennifer Cook, a representative from Assemblyman Will Barclay’s office and Sue Sweet, the Oswego City Common Council Alderman from the Third Ward.

On the day of the event seventeen cats and kittens and four dogs and puppies found new homes and their lights went on at the Home 4 the Holidays adoption sign posted outside the Humane Society’s office at the Oswego YMCA Armory.

In addition to showcasing its pet for adoption, the Humane Society opened its office and spay/neuter clinic for an open house and  hosted representatives from Dogs Deserve Better of Oswego County, Harborhounds Greyhound Rescue, Puppymill Rescue and Paws Across Oswego County, all of whom brought their dogs for adoption and information about their programs.

“We are thrilled that so many people came to find pets for adoption and to learn about our programs and the programs of the other organizations,” said Kristin Shanley, president of the Humane Society,   “We think this shows how much the Oswego community supports all our work and that these collaborative efforts are a great way to bring more attention to the need for more adoptive homes.”

This event was part of the national Home 4 the Holidays Campaign, in which more than 2500 shelters and rescue groups world wide will try to find homes for at least one million pets during the holiday season.  The Humane Society will be lighting photos of animals on its Home 4 the Holidays sign as each pet finds a home and will be posting new pets on the sign as they become available for adoption.

Pictures of pets available for adoption and more information can be located at the Humane Society’s web site at www.oswegohumane.org. For more information, call the Oswego County Humane Society at 315-207-1070.
