State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine meets with members of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73 to accept the endorsement as part of his "Working for Us" tour. The Senator spoke to the workers about his commitment to creating and preserving good jobs in the region.

State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine joined members of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73 to talk about jobs in Central and Northern New York and to accept the endorsement as part of his “Working for Us” tour.  The Plumbers and Steamfitters are part of the workforce at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant.

“Six months ago, I was elected to protect existing jobs and to help create new jobs here in Central and Northern New York.  I believe the workers here today and the jobs created as we build our energy industry are the very foundation on which we can build a new economy for our region,” Darrel said. “These men and women work hard every day building our community and I am proud to receive their endorsement and represent them in the state Senate.”

Darrel is a strong supporter of growing Oswego County’s energy industry and the jobs it provides. He is working in the Senate to lure investment in alternative energy production in Central and Northern New York and to bring in a fourth nuclear facility. Darrel has been on the ground floor working with representatives of the nuclear facilities, Northeast Biofuels in Fulton, and potential new businesses to protect the jobs that are here and to create new ones.

“This region has great potential to expand an already vibrant energy industry,” Darrel said. “While the nation struggles with rising energy prices, we can capitalize on this by becoming a leader in energy production and putting people from this Senate district to work. Alternative energy and green products will provide the jobs of the future and I am working to bring these jobs, which cannot be outsourced, here to the people of Central and Northern New York.”

Darrel’s work has earned him the support of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73 and the more than 600 members it represents. His visit today is part of this “Working for Us” tour. He was at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.

Patrick Carroll, Business Manager of UA Local 73 Plumbers & Steamfitters said, “The work ethic exhibited by Senator Aubertine, as well as his voting record and the issues he has championed prove that he is a representative who deeply understands the issues facing our families. Darrel is working for all of us. He is a champion of a fair day’s wages for a fair day’s work and he understands the importance of ensuring a living wage and benefits for working men and women. We are very pleased to be on board with his campaign for re-election to the state Senate.”
