United Way’s Annual Campaign Moving Forward

FULTON, NY – With the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Annual Campaign reaching its midway-point Executive Director Melanie Trexler is pleased to report that employee campaign coordinators and the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet are working hard to ensure the success of this year’s campaign.

The United Way’s Annual Campaign serves as a major fundraiser to help support the more than 30 human services programs offered through their member agencies.

“These vital programs serve thousands of people throughout Oswego County from children to seniors. We are fortunate to be able to fund these programs and have such a positive impact on our county. The effort we have seen from this year’s Campaign Cabinet has been truly inspirational. Under the direction of Jonathan Daniels of the Port of Oswego Authority, the Campaign Cabinet has been working diligently to ensure that this year’s annual campaign in a success. They are excited about the progress of this year’s campaign and are 100% committed to achieving our goals. Their enthusiasm for the United Way is contagious and they are doing a wonderful job of encouraging others to support our mission of improving lives by empowering our community,” said Trexler.

Comprised of a cross section of concerned community leaders, the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet works hand in hand with the United Way staff as they plan, implement, and oversee the United Way’s Annual Campaign.

Whether it’s helping to establish employee giving campaigns, arranging company presentations, or speaking with civic groups and other organizations, the members of the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet are dedicated to sharing the United Way’s mission with the community.

“Our Campaign Cabinet has implemented and has been involved in a number of initiatives that have added a real boost to our campaign,” said Trexler. “As a result of their efforts, Cheap Seats Sports Bar and Grill in Oswego hosted a special fundraiser night for the United Way and is planning another in the near future; the SUNY Oswego Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Teams will each host a United Way Night at their home games on Nov. 21 to help raise awareness of the annual campaign and encourage their fans to help support the mission of the United Way throughout Oswego County. DuFore’s Jewelers has donated a beautiful half-carat diamond pendant that will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the Annual Campaign; and a number of area businesses and individuals have donated a host of items to our Incentive Program, which provides those who donate to their workplace campaign for the United Way the opportunity to win some great prizes such as gift cards to Canale’s Restaurant, Bosco and Geers Food Store, Burke’s Home Centers, Stability Fitness in Oswego, a ladies Citizen watch from DuFore’s Jewelers, gas cards to Stewart’s Shops of Oswego County, New York Mets tickets and more.  Their commitment to the United Way and their ability to inspire their fellow community members is what will make this campaign a success. We couldn’t do it without them. They are the driving force behind our campaign.”

Members of the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet include: Brian Finn of Entergy; campaign chair, Jonathan Daniels of the Port of Oswego Authority; Rob Rolf of Pathfinder Bank; Dick Delaney of Novelis; and Maria Hudson.

Trexler added that on Nov. 21, to coincide with the United Way Night at the SUNY Oswego Men’s Ice Hockey game, Lee Victory, owner of Cheap Seats Bar and Grill, will donate 20% of all proceeds from 4 p.m. to midnight that night to help support the United Way’s 2009-10 annual campaign.
