FULTON , NY – Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County Melanie Trexler has announced that Alyse Fleming has joined the United Way staff as an intern for the fall semester.
A graduate of Mexico High School, Fleming is a junior at SUNY Oswego and is pursuing a degree in Human Development, with a minor in Health Services.
She is looking forward to working with the United Way and learning more about the many programs and agencies that the United Way is involved with.
“When I was researching internship possibilities I was intrigued by the scope of the United Way and the number of agencies and human services programs that it helps support. I knew this would be a good opportunity for me to learn more about the United Way and help my community as well,†said Fleming.
Since joining the staff, Fleming has been busy with a number of projects including helping to organize the United Way’s Annual Campaign Kick-Off Breakfast, coordinating information for companies who host in-house campaigns for the United Way, and organizing the second annual Oswego County Youth Program Forum.
“It’s been great. I am enjoying learning about the non-profit world and meeting people from so many different agencies. I am gaining valuable experience that will be beneficial in the future as my plans are to someday work in the non-profit field,†she said.
According to Trexler, Fleming will prove to be a real asset to the United Way.
“It is a pleasure to have Alyse on our staff,†said Trexler. “Her attention to detail and her willingness to help our agency has made her a welcome addition. Her enthusiasm for what we do and her genuine concern for others is inspiring.â€ÂÂ
Fleming will also be heavily involved in creating a ‘blog’ for the United Way’s website, www.oswegounitedway.org
The new feature will provide the community with the opportunity to stay connected to and share their ideas with their United Way.
It will also offer in-house campaign coordinators and member agencies with an easy and efficient way to communicate with each other.
“Our new ‘blog’ will be a welcome addition to our website that both the community and our member agencies will appreciate,†added Fleming. “I am happy to be a part of the United Way. It’s satisfying to know that even though I am still a college student I can make a difference in my community by helping the efforts of the United Way.â€ÂÂ
