State Sen. Dave Valesky, left, endorsing Sen. Darrel Aubertine for reelection.

Calling state Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine an “effective advocate for rural and upstate issues,” State Sen. David J. Valesky, Oneida, visited Watertown today to emphasize that Upstate New York needs Darrel to continue fighting for our interests.

“I came here today to make sure everyone knows how hard Darrel has been working for local people on the rural and upstate issues that matter to all of us,” Sen. Valesky said. “Darrel continually gets the job done in the face of partisan opposition because he works well with everyone in state government, Republicans and Democrats, the governor and both houses.”

Sen. Valesky pointed to Darrel’s work advocating for education in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties to bring in a record increase in school aid and $195 million and $61.4 million in aid for capital projects at SUNY Oswego and Canton.

“The Senate Majority and its Long Island block tried to cut funding for upstate schools and take away this capital funding in an effort to embarrass him,” Sen. Valesky said. “But Darrel got the job done. He has proven himself in just a few short months to be an effective member of the Senate for his district. He worked hard to keep Lee Memorial Hospital open, saving 200 local jobs for another year.”

Sen. Valesky said he and Darrel founded the Upstate Caucus to work together to cap property taxes, save jobs and to make Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties a center for energy production in the state. He noted recent visits with Darrel to the Port of Oswego and a tour of the Northeast Biofuels plant in Fulton.

“Together, Darrel and I are strong voices for rural upstate voters and our districts,” Sen. Valesky said. “Our caucus includes several Upstate Senators and will give us a new powerful group of lawmakers fighting for rural and Upstate New York. The people of Central and Northern New York are well served by Darrel. Together we can continue fighting for the working people of Central and Northern New York.”

Sen. Aubertine said he was excited to have Sen. Valesky’s support.

“Dave does a great job working for the people of his district and it means a lot for him to come to Watertown to make this endorsement,” Sen. Aubertine said. “We are both committed to upstate issues and together we will continue to stand together with our upstate colleagues to protect our schools, improve our economy, support sportsmen’s rights, and create the opportunities we need in Central and Northern New York.”
