VIP Structures Celebrates Paul Malo Preservation Award for Market House Restoration in Oswego, NY
Syracuse, NY — January 6, 2026 — VIP Structures is proud to announce that the Market House redevelopment in Oswego, NY, has been honored with the Paul Malo Award by the Preservation Association of Central New York (PACNY). This prestigious award recognizes projects that thoughtfully integrate historic preservation with contemporary design, an achievement that reflects VIP’s commitment to adaptive reuse and community revitalization.
Built in 1836, Oswego’s Market House has been a de?ning presence along the Oswego River for nearly two centuries. Once the city’s principal market hall and ?rst city hall, the building later served as railroad offices before sitting vacant and structurally compromised. The restoration transformed Market House into a vibrant mixed-use destination, featuring a riverfront restaurant and brewery with market-rate apartments above.
As the construction partner, VIP Structures collaborated closely with the building’s visionary owner, alongside MacKnight Architects, restoring defining historic features such as the original spiral staircase, curvilinear ceilings, and masonry façade, with portions of the work carried out by VIP’s own field crews. At the same time, modern systems, accessibility upgrades, and amenities were integrated, with engineering design and coordination provided by IPD Engineering. These improvements support the building’s new uses, including the riverfront restaurant, the Old City Hall Brewery, and Market House Apartments.
The renovation received funding support from multiple sources, including Historic Tax Credits, New York State grants, the Oswego County IDA, and the City of Oswego, underscoring the community’s commitment to preserving this historic landmark. The renewed Market House now stands as a cornerstone of Oswego’s waterfront revival, offering residents and visitors a unique blend of heritage, hospitality, and riverfront energy.
