VOLNEY, NY – Volney Elementary School teachers each selected one student from their classrooms to receive the classroom role model award for exhibiting this month’s character education trait of empathy.

The Principal Awards were given by Principal Todd Terpening during an assembly in the school cafeteria, where students explained empathy meant “to be in another person’s shoes” and “being able to recognize how someone is feeling without them telling you.”
Also honored with “On a Roll” certificates were one student from each class who have made academic or social achievements.

At the assembly, kindergartners sang a special song about tolerance, which is the character education trait for January.

Reese Ives, Aiden Bergman, Jeffrey Conklin, Rachael Moon, Jose Vosseller, Gracyn Cantine, Michael Blair, Anna Miner, Collen Austin, Emma Hutchinson, Cole Havens, Aidan Brewster, Tristan Graham, Joely LaPage, Gerrit Ossevoort, Bryce Greenier, Ashley Huller, Trevor Hendrickson, James Salisbury, Joann LeVea, Mary Jerred and Lydia Gigliotti.
“On a Roll” awardees are:
Isabella Wagner, Marcus Collar, Devin Catalone, Branden Garner, Trinity Hughes, Walker Doney, Trenton Ingersoll, Khloe Bergman, Holly Cornell, Shane Thomas, Dominick Vosseller, Tyler Ingersoll, Tyler Osborne, Ellie Parkhurst, Jillian Calaman, Mikey Doney, Sydni Casler, Ben Roberts, Ryan Nichols, Summer Parker and Shane Goutermout Reynolds.
