‘Wizard of Oz’ a Perfect Fit for Harborfest Children’s Musical

OSWEGO – For the last several years, the Harborfest Children’s Musical has become a popular feature in the festival’s schedule.

Oswego Children’s Theater will present “The Wizard of Oz” as the 2019 Harborfest children’s musical. Pictured at a recent rehearsal is Amelia Sawyer as a Baby Munchkin.

This summer’s production, “The Wizard of Oz”, seems a particularly appropriate choice for creating the magical atmosphere that the festival is known for.

The original book was written by Central New York native L. Frank Baum.

The story was later made into the famous 1939 MGM movie, starring Judy Garland, that is consistently rated as the one of the greatest films of all time.

“The Wizard of Oz” has a past connection with the Oswego Children’s Theater production company, as the story was the first show performed by the organization, in the summer of 2002.

The special youth version of “The Wizard of Oz” being presented this year features all the famous characters and music from the original show along with a huge cast of area youth led by award winning directors Lyndsie and Kenneth Jones, aided by set designer Richard Mosher along with producers Wayne and Kelly Mosher and a group of dedicated parents.

Harborfest is one of the few admission-free festivals of its type in the country.
