The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau has funding available for its 2010 mini-grant program. Funding will be awarded to not-for-profit community organizations that provide non-sectarian activities for youth during hours when school is not in session.
“Mini-grants provide an opportunity for community organizations to work together and come up with creative ways to provide a diverse activities that meet the interests of a wide group of youth,†said Kathleen Fenlon, director of the Youth Bureau.
In the past, the youth bureau has awarded grants for several activities serving youth throughout Oswego County. Examples include a keynote speaker for a countywide youth employment summit, a community arts event, a summer reading program at the Fulton Public Library, and a bike rodeo/ safe child community day.
The Youth Bureau also has mini-grant funds available for projects that address the needs of at-risk youth or address risk issues which youth experience. Past examples include hosting a speaker at a countywide teen health conference, supporting a family camp hosted by Rural and Migrant Ministries, and implementing an anti-bullying program called Rachael’s Challenge at the Oswego High School.
Grant requests may range from $500 to $2,000. Three organizations may work together and apply for up to $6,000 for a collaborative mini-grant.
Projects must be completed by the end of 2010 and provide a direct service to children and families in Oswego County. Applications will be accepted in three cycles for 2010. Applications for the first round of funding are due by March 12, with award announcements made by March 31.
Not-for-profit organizations, including agencies, schools, libraries, municipalities, associations, and churches may apply for funding. Organizations are encouraged to involve youth in the planning and implementation of the project.
